To put it simply, OpenX is an advertisement server that is open source and licensed under the GNU General Public License. The main characteristic of the server is that it has an integrated banner management interface and tracking system for gathering statistics. This makes it easier for website admins to change and use banners from both their own advertisement campaigns or banners from from paid or third-party sources.

What does the OpenX ad server do?
The OpenX is an open-source ad server which you can download and install on your preferred web server.

The server is chiefly used to display advertising banners on other websites. It provides options for banner capping, user and site based targeting, time or click limited campaigns, and prioritization of campaigns.

You can review the statistical performance of a specific banner, campaign, promoter, publisher or zone and re-prioritize your banners as required.

I have a website which is based on a non-PHP language – can I use OpenX?
Yes, OpenX can display banners on any website that don’t matter what is the website language. We would suggest you utilize the javascript or iFrame invocation tags for displaying banners on your website.

Only the Local Mode invocation tag will work with PHP websites only. XML-RPC invocation tags are  valid for advanced users and, although it contains an example PHP file for illustrative purposes, it can be used with nearly any programming language.

BODHost Ltd – Recommendation for Hosting OpenX Server.

The best Hosting platform for OpenX Server is a Dedicated Server. For smaller projects we recommend a Pentium 4 Server while more demanding projects should be hosted on one of the dual core processors like the Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06Ghz.
